Lestinvest

A subsidiary of Finibanco (www.finibanco.pt) which was formally set up as a Credit Institution in June 1993, but its origins date back to 1989, when its predecessor - Finindústria - Sociedade de Investimentos e Financiamento Industrial, S.A. was founded.

Initially focused on Commercial Banking, Finibanco, as the parent company of its financial group, extended its scope of activity to other areas, namely Investment Banking and Asset Management from 1996 onwards, through the setting up of various companies specialized in specific banking business areas, thus guaranteeing in terms of human and material structures an adequate response to the needs of the market.

On 27 June, 2001 Finibanco became a holding company, incorporated under the name Finibanco-Holding, SGPS S.A., while at the same time a new Finibanco, S.A. was set up, wholly owned by the Holding, which received from the former the banking business as well as the majority of its assets.

The objective of the Group is to provide a quality service and a vast range of financial products that support the activities of its Affiliated Companies.

The Finibanco Group has a vast agency network throughout the entire country, two financial branches abroad, one in Madeira and another in the Cayman Islands, a Bank in Angola and a significant number of instrumental companies that cover the most diverse asset management activities, the provision of complementary financial services in the insurance area, specialized consumer credit and lease purchase financing.

Mota-Engil

Mota-Engil was founded by the merge of two individual comanies, namel y Mota & Companhia and Engil, Sociedade de Engenharia Civil, Ldª,.

Manuel António da Mota founded Mota & Companhia in Amarante on June 29th 1946. Mr Mota actively promoted its business up to 1974, first in the timber exploitation and transformation industry and then, as from 1948, in the public works construction business as well. In the year 1952 the construction of the Luanda International Airport was awarded during the year, which was to be the first major contract to be realised in the country and became the benchmark for the Company`s activity in subsequent years. Having been awarded with numerous construcion projects abroad, in 1987 Mota & Companhia was listed on the OFFICIAL MARKET of the PORTUGUESE STOCK EXCHANGE.

Engil was set up by Fernando José Saraiva and António Lopes de Almeida, under the name of Engil, Sociedade de Engenharia Civil, Ldª, on September 3rd 1952. In 1954 two new shareholders joined the Company - Simões Cúcio and António Valadas Fernandes. It could be said that Engil was founded all over again during this period, Valadas Fernandes having taken control of the Company. The year of 1961 led to expand its geographic field of operations beyond the Lisbon region. However, the internationalisation was interrupted and a new start was made only several years later in 1989.

On July 23rd 1999 Algosi and Vallis, two instrumental companies belonging to the Mota family, launched a take-over bid for Engil, leading to the formation of the Mota-Engil Group during 2000.

The fusion from the companies Mota & Companhia, SA; Engil – Sociedade de Construção Civil, SA e Mota-Engil Internacional creates the biggest Portuguese building company. By that time, it starts a diversification process, especially to transportation, environment and services.

Nowadays Mota-Engil’s mission is directed all times towards achieving total customer and shareholder satisfaction, the basic principles being to provide utmost quality under the very best safety conditions, with full regard for the environment and with no discouragement of the human spirit that we wish to retain in our relations with our employees.
